Would like rice with that?

Casey's in Seoul and while she misses everything American (well ALMOST everything) she's going to enjoy the rest of her time here with reckless abandon. So be you family, friend, or foe, read on for musings, rants, and general banter concering an ex-pat's life in the foreign yet not as foreign as i thought Seoul, Korea!

Class haikus

So in my Aim High class (the highest level we offer at SLP) I decided to supplement our text book and teach these kids poetry. I thought, they've got a sophisticated grasp on english, surely they'll appreciate it. And actually it's been going pretty well...
We started off doing a Bio Poem. Then we did haikus, and then last week we did a cinquain. As each students wrote their own I did my own. My bio poem and cinquain suck a lot but I thought these haikus were pretty damn cute. I wrote one for each season:

flowers awaken
"wake up nature, rise and shine!"
press snooze one more time

itchy blood sucker
incessant whizzing in ear
splat! red on the wall

confetti from trees
gusts of wind blow party horns
autumnal get down

kids zipped up- marshmallows
leaves tumble from sleepy trees
my scarf itches me

I tried reading Robert Frost to the students to inspire them, but they didn't really get him.... but they do like Shel Silverstein!
